Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Blower, carburetor kits, air mixture

Question
Hello John,  I am stumped!!!  I am working on a Craftsman blower model # 358.797931.  When I throttle up past half way it dies.  I have cleaned and soaked the carburetor over night in carb cleaner. Blown out with compressed air and   cleaned out all of the openings with tag wire.  Also, I have installed a carb kit , disassembled it three times to make sure everything was assembled correctly and it still stalles out when I try to thottle up.  This model has a Walbro WA 228-A carburetor and I can apparently only find carb kits from Craftsman.  This model also only has a high speed needle adjustment. No change there. What am I failing to do?  By the way if that is not enough the muffler was removed, gas cap loosened, fresh gas, and still no change.
Thanks in advance, Randy

Answer
 Hello Randy:

By No Change There; when Mentioning the High Air Mixture Screw, What do you Mean? If you Mean No Change when you Adjust the Air Mixture Screw, then 1- Check the Carburetor Pump Needle. If it is Set to Low it will Starve the Engine when the RPMs are Increased. 2- Did you Replace the Fuel Filter in the Tank? A Dirty Fuel Filter will Restrict the Fuel Flow to the Carburetor. 3- What is the Compression of this Engine, Please? After the Engines Compression is 90psi or Lower you can Have All Sorts of Problems. Usually a Rough or No Idle. Sometimes you Can't Rev the Engine Because the Intake Suction Isn't Enough to Pull the Fuel Through the Carburetor Jet Past Idle. It Stalls as you Described. You Should be Able to Purchase the Carburetor Kits from 1- http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ or Call Them at 1.877.707.2787  2- http://walbro.com/ Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
