Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman eager 1 6.75, craftsman eager 1, starter rope

Question
I picked this mower up too, but am having problems with it starting, and it has a funny recoil issue.  About every 3rd pull after priming the recoil trips or something and about yanks your arm off.  Do these mowers have common carb problems?  Any light on these two issues would be great.

Answer
 Hello Jason:

By "Recoil Trips"; Do you Mean it Kicks Back and Snatches the Starter Handle from your Hand? If Yes, then the Cause for this can be the Valves Need Adjusting or the Flywheel Key is Damaged. If the Starter is Slipping and the Starter Rope Suddenly Pulls All the Way Out and the Engine Doesn't Turn when this Happens, then the Starter Pawls May need to be Cleaned and Oiled or May need Replacing. Carburetor Problems are the Most Common on All Small Engines that are Used on a Seasonal Basis. The Gas Forms a Varnish that Restricts the Gas Flow through the Jets and Passages of the Carburetor. The Carburetor Must be Soaked Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk) and then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. Here is a Site Addy if this is a Tecumseh Engine that will be Useful to you. **http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf** Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
