Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower wont start, jumper lead, jumper cables

Question
I have a Craftsman 18 HP electric start Model 917.273762

A month ago I started it up after sitting all winter in the garage and all was fine. I let it run for a few minutes and turned it off.  4 weeks later I went to start it up again and there was no response turning the key.  My first step was to re-charge the battery.  Then I got a clicking noise when turning the key, but it still won't start.  I checked all the wiring and from what I can tell it all looks good. I then put in a new spark plug (I don't think that was the problem but I probably needed a new one anyway) The manual suggests I may have a faulty solenoid or starter.  Does this sound right?  If so, how do I determine which?  (replacing the starter doesn't look fun...)

Answer
 Hello Scott:

If you are Sure the Battery is Good, then Take a Jumper Cable Set and Properly Hook them to the Battery. Use the Positive Lead of the Jumper Cables and FIRMLY Touch the Large Post on the Starter. If the Starter Turns, then Unplug the Small Lead from the Base of the Solenoid and Firmly Touch the Post with the Positive Jumper Lead. If the Solenoid JUST CLICKS, then Replace the Solenoid. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
