Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L120 Bogs when pto is engaged, john deere l120, sectional index

Question
John Deere L120. 20HP Intek. Runs great under no load. When I engage the electric pto it almost dies then comes back to 3/4 throttle. When I go over even short grass it dies. 30 minutes later engine smokes and runs worse. Help!

Answer
 Hello Ryan:

Remove the Deck and Check the Spindle Assemblies and Ensure they are Turning Free. There should be No Binding or Grinding Noise when the Spindles are Turned by Hand. You should be Able to Spin the Spindles by Hand and the Free Turn a Couple of Turns before Stopping. From your Description it Sounds like the Spindles, or an Idler Pulley is Binding and Dragging the Engine Down by Putting an Extra Load on the Engine. When this Happens, the Engine will Overheat and Do as you Described. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower and Engine at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers L120 and Click Find. Then Select the Model in the Search Results Area. Then Select Sectional Index. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
