Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): augers on a 2 stage snow thrower, shear bolts, snow thrower

Question
I have a 1994 White 2 stage snow boss 500 with a 5 horse techumseh engine.  The augers will not pick up snow  very well and toss it into the impellar.  The snow sticks badly and the blower just ends up pushing the snow instead.  The augers are pretty rusty and am wondering if that could be the problem.  Do augers wear over time and need replaced?  This machine is used heavily every winter.  I have sprayed them with silicone but the snow still sticks.  If I painted them would that help restore to new?  I do not want to replace the augers since this is expensive for an old machine.  Any advice would be very helpful before the next northeast ohio lake effect event this winter.  Other than that the machine runs and operates like new still.  Thank-you.

Answer
Paint may help the sticking issue.  As for the auger, does the unit have shear bolt in the auger?  Almost all, at least every one have have worked on, have shear bolts.  It they shear then the auger will slip causing it not to throw snow.
Let me know what you find.
