Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda gx670, happy thanksgiving, carburetor

Question
Hey John,
i am using the motor to spin a Big fan on a 2 to 1 reduction. i have disconnected the governor and am using the butterfly to control the throttle. i set the pitch on the fan so that at full throttle the engine will not rev over 3600rpm. i seem to get way more thrust this way. why so? am i destroying the engine?

Thanks,

Tim

Answer
 Hello Tim:

The Reason is the Engine Isn't Fighting the Internal Governor. With the Governor Hooked up to the Carburetor the Governor is Constantly Pulling Back on the Carburetor Control and this Cuts Back on the Power/Thrust. As Long as the Engine isn't Revving Over the 3600 RPM's, then the Engine should not be Damaged. You are using the Fan Pitch as the Governor. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John

PS: Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas (:-))
