Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 917.377271, craftsman 917, wheel assemblies

Question
I have a Craftsman 917.377271 self propelled mower. The mower engine is working fine, but when I engage the knob for self propulsion, it clicks as it should, but the front wheels lock. The belts seem to be fine. Any ideas? Thanks-Dale

Answer
 Hello Dale:

Check the Wheel Assemblies First. If Dirt/Grit Builds Up this will Happen. Once the Wheel Assemblies are Removed Try the Drive and See if it Locks Up. If it Does, then the Bushings May be Worn Out and Allowing the Worm Gear to Bind with the Ring Gear. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Mower at this Addy http://www3.sears.com/ and Click the Lawn Equipment Box. Then Enter the Model Numbers 917.377271 and Click Continue. Then Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View the Diagram you Require to Perform this Repair. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
