Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Runs w/ hand over carb, briggs and stratton, spray cleaners

Question
Briggs 130202 / type 0801 01 / code 80062407 - on a log splitter /// I finally got motor running but will only run w/ hand covering carb intake & will not run strong. RPM's are low & will not keep running. While running the throttle control ontop of carb does not move. Any suggestions? I did change points a few yrs back & have run it since but has sat 2+ yrs since last time. Any help will be appreciated

Answer
 Hello Michael:

After 2 years you were Lucky it Started. My Luck is Never that Good. I Suggest you Remove and Disassemble the Carburetor and Soak it Overnight in Gunk Carburetor Cleaner. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install New Kit. The Gas in the Carburetor has Turned to Varnish and has the Carburetor Jet and Passages  Clogged. With your Hand you are Pulling the Gas through the Choke Port of the Carburetor. Gas Doesn't Stay in the Choke Port like it does in the Main Jet and Other Passages. Using Spray Cleaners Isn't going to Work. They Loosen Some of the Varnish, but Mostly the Spray Cleaners do No Good. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select File # 13. Then Select Folder # 130200. This will Download the Breakdown/IPL of the Engine. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
