Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mega-Fire ignition module, magnet field, fire ignition

Question
John,
Will experiment with flywheel gap tomorrow.  Have you ever used the mega-fire ignition module?  With success?

Thanks for your quick reply,  Hugh

Question -
Hi,
I have a B&S 8 HP engine that runs fine with points
and condenser, (model 190402 Type 168001)(new in 1979) It also runs OK with
POWER-START ignition module made in Australia but is
very hard to start as module does
not fire well at low RPM (probably the case).

The same engine will not run at all with Mega-Fire
ignition module, no spark. (tried both polarities).

Stens will not talk to me because I am not a dealer.

Can you thelp me?  (or tell me who may be able to help
me)

1) Is there a way to identify a defective Mega-Fire
ignition module?

2) Is there a good chance the Mega-Fire II module will
work.

3) Any suggestions to offer?

Thanks,  Hugh White, Pennington, NJ

 Hello Hugh:

On some of the Ignition Modules, you have to Increase or Decrease the Distance of the Coil to the Flywheel. Its been a While but the Gaps are .030in and .010in Respectively. Something about Changing the Densenty of the Magnet Field to the Coil Changes the Spark Voltage. Not Really Sure. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

Answer
 Hello Hugh:

I have Used the Mega-Fire, but dont Recommend them. They Work well on some Mowers and Give Problems on Other Mowers. Its a Coil Thing. The Only Ignition Module I have Used with Constant Success is the Made by Nova. I Purchase them from http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ @ 205-669-2500 (Michelle). Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.
