Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Followup, paper element, smoke blows

Ok, i did try what you asked except for the air cleaner i dont know where it is, it still dont want to start at all and when i pull the cord it doesnt pull out all the way the bulb primer doesnt have a tear and when it goes to start white smoke blows out the side its like a metal thing with a vent on it and has a hand with a line through it on it, do you know where i could download a manual for it? it just doesnt want to start i dont know where the air filter is and i dont know where the carb is the lady doesnt have a manual i dont know if i should keep it or sell it is this a good model? PLEASE HELP!! THANKS AMANDA craftsman 6.0 lawnmower model # 917.388382

Amanda, the air cleaner is opposite the muffler (the thing where the smoke comes out and the do not touch sign).  The air cleaner is a paper element and cannot be reused- it should be replaced, but really that isn't your problem.  
Your carburator is flooding your engine out with gasoline.  Most likely culprit is the float/needle assembly in the bowl looking thing on the bottom of the carburator.  The carburator is located on the lefthand side (as you face the mower) behind the air cleaner.
Take it to a reputable shop, they can replace the float/needle- it IS a good model, but will cost you an additional 40-65$ to ge it right.  Sorry...
