Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman mower starting, craftsman riding mower, safety switch

I have Craftsman riding mower (17.5HP 42 inch cut) that is difficult to start.  Upon initial starting I only hear a click.  If I push the engage blade lever up and down several times it will eventually start. Is there something loose?  What can I do to get it to start normally.

Hi Mark,

There is a safety switch that is activated by the blade engagement lever.  You may be able to adjust it to make better contact with the lever or it may be faulty and in need of replacement.  Look for wires that go to that area, to locate it.
