Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawn mower blade removal, lawn mower blade, self propelled lawn mower

Question
Hi, I have one year old Murry push, self propelled lawn mower that the blade partially broke off - I'm teaching my sons and they're not getting out of this chore no matter how many blades I go through.  I purchased a new blade but I can't remove the old one.  I have consulted the manual and thought I'm not strong enough to remove the bolts.  I read to use "liquid wrench" and am now on my 5th application of this.  I went to home depot and they said sometimes companies use "lock tite".  I have used an electric drill with the appropriate sized bit along with many manual wrenches, sockets or whatever fits and it is not budging.  I'm wondering about the lock tight.  What are your thoughts about removing this without transporting this to an authorized dealer?  Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Susan

Answer
Hi Susan,

Use a wooden block to hold the blade solid, then use a socket (Preferrably a 6 point instead of 12 point.) and a section of pipe fitted over the socket wrench, for leverage.  The bolt should budge easily.  Locktite is easily overcome with wrenches, so that isn't the problem.  Make sure you are turning the bolt in the correct direction.  The top of the bolt, when looking at the top, is turned to the left, (counter clockwise) to loosen.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
