Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Carb/idle adjustments, key switch, engine speed

Question
I finally started my 1986 Toro rider's Tecumseh V70-125259e. I replaced the key switch and the solid state module. It now runs wide open all the time and the throttle seems to have no impact on engine speed. The cables appear to be connected correctly. Any advice?

Answer
You will need to check to make sure the governor rod is still properly connected.  Another thing to look at is the idle speed screw being cranked up all the way or even debris holding the throttle open.  If everything is connected and adjusted correctly, there could be a problem with the centrifugal governor mechanism inside the engine (unlikely) or the lever on the outside of the engine has moved.  If you need to adjust the governor lever, I recommend having a shop do it so they can set it to the proper RPM.  Hope this helps.
