Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 10 hp., control linkages, hp model


Question

I have a Tecumseh 10 Hp'engineon a snow blower.  I purchaced this equipt. in 1996 . It has not been used very much but when i went to start it thes year I had a terrible time getting it to start.  Finally got it going and now it runs terrible.  It will not start hot or cold without full choke.  It will not run with choke open  runs with chock closed or half choke., but runs terrible.  Does not have full power . I put in a new spark plug and it did not help.  when i checked the plug after short run it was all black.please help solve this problem  Engine is a Tecumseh 10 hp. model HMSK 100  thanks for any help

This is a common problem.  To remedy the situation you will need to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carburetor.

We use an air compressor to blow out the carburetor orfices and then some carb cleaner to remove any other residue.

The carb is fairly simple...most of the time removing and re-installing takes the most time.  Pay attention the the carburetor control linkages and you should be fine.

Let me know you find inside the carb.
