Snowmobile Repair: My snowmobile dies on me and I dont know why., poloris, br8es

After a while of driving my snowmobile around it sudenly dies on me and is difficult to once again start up. My snowmobile is a 1971 poloris, it's pretty old even when I bought it. I have owened it for about a year but this problem has never occured until now. Thank you for your help in advance.

Hello Charlie,

  How does the sled run other than suddenly dying? If it runs perfectly fine otherwise, I would suspect an ignition system problem. If it runs poorly all the time I would suspect a fuel and or electraical problem. Here I where I would start. Make sure you are using the correct fuel/oil ratio, it is 40:1 on all 70's Polaris machines. next, be sure to use the correct spark plugs, which you can decide from here http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/apps/snowmobiles/step2.asp  I would recomend going one heat range higher than what NGK recomends, for exmaple if they recomend BR9ES, go with BR8ES. Also, you may want to dissasemble the carburetor to make sure it is clean. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any othe questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
