Snowmobile Repair: caburetor settings 73 Cheetah & 74 Lynx, kawasaki engines, jet sizes

Question
Hi Catman,
I recently purchased 2 older Cats...a 74- 440 Lynx and a 73- 340 Cheetah. They both have Kawasaki engines with Walbro WF-1B carbs. I am wondering how to adjust this particular carburetor. I would like to all the specs. especially the jet setting on it. I desperately need some help as the carburetor is sitting on my kitchen table!
Thanks so much,
Sonny

Answer
Hello Sonny,

Good to see you bought some vintage Cats! The Walbro carbs are very touchy, and always act up a bit now and again. The jet sizes for both sleds are .076. You can still get some parts for the sleds here: http://www.brownsleisureworld.com/Parts/SNOWMOBILE/ , and also at www.denniskirk.com and www.mfgsupply.com  .  Considering the age of the sleds, you may want to install a new carb kit. You can get new one here: http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp;jsessionid=33RLZX4JUFW...  .   As far as the needle settings, start with 1-1/4 turns out form the in position with the idle speed screw. On some carbs, but rarely, there is a large screw right next to the idle screw. This screw starts at 1/4 turns open. Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sleds! --Arcticatman
