Snowmobile Repair: Repair person, lawn mower repair, snowmobile repair

Question
I hate to bother you, but I am becoming desparate in regards to finding someone in the Morgantown,WV and surrounding area to fix my father-in-law's 20+ year old artic cat snowmobile.  I really don't have any better information at the moment, but can provide more information if needed.  I can't seem to locate anyone as of yet, but I wanted to make sure that I have exhausted all of my possibilites.  What I can tell you is that the snowmobile hasn't been touched for at least 6-7 years, and has not been winterized or any other upkeep.  Thanks!

Answer
Hello Amy,

I think finding a snowmobile repair shop is going to be near to impossible in your area. I've searched all the dealers for Cat, and the nearest to you would be up in PA. Considering the sleds age, I think just about any lawn mower repair place will get it going for you. If the sled has just been sitting for lack of use, and it ran prior to storage, getting it to run should be decently easy. If you or someone decides to try to get it going, here is a basic checklist.

Replace spark plugs.

Drain the gas out of the tank by setting it on its side with the cap off.

Remove the carburetor, and take the bottom piece off of it, known as the float bowl. Then spray carburetor cleaner inside of the carb, it would be ideal to work the inlet needle up and down to make sure it's free, spraying plenty of carb cleaner on it, in the process.

Mix up fuel/oil mix for the sled. The proper way to it, would be 5 gallons of gas mixed up with 1 quart of two cycle oil.

Make sure there are no mouse nests inside of the muffler or air box and carb, more sleds get burned up every year because of this.

I've recently put a website up, you might want to check out,  http://www.freewebs.com/thesledzone/trailready.htm
Hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions, and I will be more than happy to answer them. Good luck with the Cat! --Arcticatman
