Snowmobile Repair: ski doo formula 500 trans. problem, many different things, loose track

hi,
i have a 1997 ski doo formula 500, when i get go about 3/4 throttle, it sounds like the track is slipping.  causing a clunking noise under the seat, more towards the  rear of the engine.  i like to fix it before winter, so any help would be great.

Hello Brian,

 It sounds like there is really some friction going on with your sled. Some possibilities would be missing or loose track clip(s) or, a tear in the track. A missing idler wheel can cause this, too. You best bet would be to check these areas out throughly, first. If you think all of these are ok, then it might be time to dissasemble the chaincase and look to see if the sprockets are allright. Also, take a look at your belt and clutches. Make sure the axles are ok, too. This problem can be caused by so many different things, that it's hard to troubleshoot with out checking everything over. It's hard when I'm not there to hear it, so I'm just saying what the common problems are! I really hope you can find out the source of the noise.
