Snowmobile Repair: no spark on #1 cylinder, ingleside ontario, field magnets

Question
Dear Catman; I have a 1977 Polaris Colt 340ss. I have no spark on the #1 cylinder, so far I have checked the ignition switch and kill switch there are fine. The spark plug and wire is good. I installed a new set of points and gapped them to spec. The secondary (exterior coils)are new. I just had the #1 primary (interior coil) rewound as I tested it, and it was "open". I thought for sure this would fix the problem, but it didn't.Can you please help me out? The coil I had rewound was dipped and baked in some type of plastic/resin could this be the reason for no spark because it is insulated from the magneto field magnets.
Please help me if you can

Answer
Hello Paul,

It sounds like you just will need a new primary coil, and you will be set to go. Just check all your wiring over and make sure it's all properly connected. Be sure to use new spark plugs, too. I don't doubt at all that the resin is causing the no-spark problem, if it is covering up the metal parts of the coil.  Here, you can get a new ones for a very good price: http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/MMYSkuDisplay.jsp;jsessionid=CWPHN... . Also, you might want to put a new ignition wire, and spark plug cap on it, too. They may have a internal open circuit. You can get a new wire and cap on www.denniskirk.com for less than ten dollars. Best of luck to you with the sled, I hope that you can get it running good. Let me know if I can help with any other questions at all. --Arctcatman
