Steering Column Repair: 1992 Yukon headlight problem, rocker switch, headlight switch

Question
Hello, I have a 1992 Yukon that the headlights some times stay on and sometimes go out and I will have to pull over and sit for a few. Then start the truck and turn them on and they will work. Sometimes this problem does not happen and I am confused. Can you help out and give me some advice?

Answer
Hello Tim:

The headlight s on your vehicle are on the dash (a rocker switch).  The high beam dimmer switch is mounted on the side of the steering column. My guess is that you have a bad headlight switch, or a harness that is melted and shorting two wires, but those are both just guesses.  It could be an overheated plug at the dimmer switch, but that' too is just a guess.  I have had no common problems such as yours so it's not something I can help you with beyond that.  Sorry I couldn't do more

Good luck
Doug
