Steering Column Repair: 2004 Durango - Steering Wheel problems, 2004 dodge durango, dodge durango

We have a 2004 Dodge Durango V8 Limited in Los Angeles. One day, I received some very disturbing news, and started banging on my steering wheel, and now the wheel has play in it, almost as if part of a "knuckle" was broken that a ball sits in as the wheel rotates...it "wobbles" perpendicular to the column

The wheel turns fine and there is no loss of responsiveness when steering.

Three different shops refused to touch it - body shop and regular mechanic.

1) What is that likely broke?
2) Who should I look for in LA?
3) Is it dangerous to drive?

Sorry about your truck.
There are 2 designs of column used that year.  Can you send me a picture of your column through my company website?  Here is my email address
