Steering Column Repair: 1978 Chevy C20 Steering column., tilt column, pin puller

Question
I went to put the gear shift in park & the whole upper assembly moved w/ the gear shift on the column. When i I wen tto move the gear shift back, The signal-ignition housing shifted w/ it again. I put the tilt in mid range & could easily push it to full tilt right before this. I have the columnb stripped down to the last tilt assembly pin to pull & cannot get it out.
A) Can I punch that pin out from thru the other pin that is out?
B) Is this a rebuildable situation or snafu & replace column ?
Thank You!

Answer
Hi Larry:

Sorry about your truck.  If this happened suddenly then you run the risk of the column tube being broken.  If this loosened up over a period of a month or more, then you can rebuild it.
You cannot punch the pin out from the inside, the shaft is in the way.  You should use a pivot pin puller.

We have recently uploaded some videos on our company website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the loose tilt column you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the videos are for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.
