Steering Column Repair: sloppy steering column..how to fix?, chevy silverado, tilt column

i am rebuilding a 1985 chevy silverado 20  3/4ton 4x4 longbed with AT... my question is this...the steering column is tilt with intermediate wipers and very sloppy...... with about a 2 to 3" play from side to side..... all of the mounting bolts are tight...it is inside the steering column..how can i rebuild it to eliminate this ?
