Steering Column Repair: transmission?, chevy lumina, transmission expert

Question
QUESTION: i have a 94 chevy lumina 3.1 and when i try to shift out of park it wont shift i have to put it in nuetral and rock it till it "clunks out of park" then i can put it in gear and go

ANSWER: Hi Becky:
I really don;t understand the question.  On one hand you say you can't shift it out of "Park" and then in the next sentence you say you shift it into "Neutral".  So I'm not sure what you are doing or what the problem is.

QUESTION: what i meant was that the shifter moves and the indicator says its in gear but when i push on the gas it just revs like its in park still so i move the shifter to neutral then rock the car back and forth and it will eventually go into gear then i move the shifter to rev or drive and it will go. and as long as i dont put it in park it will go from rev to drive and work fine but if i put it back to park i have to rock it again. i hope taht makes a little more sense im not very good with auto terms

Answer
That's fine Becky.
What you are experiencing is a transmission problem.  The park mechanism inside the transmission is not releasing.  This is not a steering column or shifter problem, but one much more expensive and bigger.
You can check with someone in the transmission expert field, but I think you are looking at a fairly big job.

Thanks for getting back to me
Good luck
