Steering Column Repair: Please Help W/ Problem, muffler shop, buick century

Question
I have a 98 Buick Century. It has a tilt column. I just recently had my tie rods and hub & bearing done and now I'm having this problem with my steering wheel not turning. When I can actually get it to turn it's extremely difficult like trying to turn the wheel while it's in neutral. It tends to be more difficult to turn to the left and I can hear a strange noise. What could be causing this problem? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jaks:
It sounds like the power steering has gone bad.  this is out of my realm as the PS is under the hood and car and my expertise is in the column itself.  I do not believe anything in the column would cause this but certainly the rack and pinion would, especially if it is accompanied by a noise and is different from left to right.

I would suggest you go to another shop (perhaps a brake and muffler shop as they do steering systems as well) for a second opinion

Good luck
Doug
