Steering Column Repair: steering wheel, airbag module, wheel position

Question
I have a 1995 s10 and im trying to figure out how to take the steering wheel off. its been off Before. Ive had it and it isnt straight like its suppose to be and i need to see how i can get it off thanks also the steering wheel horn button doesnt work is there a reason why?

Hi Stanley:

If I'm not mistaken, your truck has an airbag.  But in addition, once you get the airbag and the steering wheel off, there is a master spine that will prevent you from moving the steering wheel position relative to the shaft, but i may be wrong.

If the removal of the airbag is what's giving you trouble, check out this site and the pages marked 'Components'.  Click on the 'airbag module' link and it will show you how to remove it.

If it's the steering wheel itself, you may need a puller.  Once it's off, you'll see the spline and what I mean.
