Steering Column Repair: Wiper/Washer Switch on a 1993 Chevy S-10, chevy s10, tilt steering

Question

Chevy S10 Pics of Wipe
Doug, how do I remove the wiper/washer switch on a 1993 Chevy S10 6 cyl? The shroud does not separate, so I can't get access to the pin to remove and replace the switch. I've removed all other components of the non-tilt steering column. The only option I can see is to cut into the plastic shroud. I've also tried removing the entire steering head and shroud from the column, but can't solve that one either.

Answer

gm igniition switch
Hi Max:
No cutting allowed!!
The upper housing with all of the inner components comes off the shaft very easily.  You will be taking it off as an assembly and installing it that way because it's much easier than trying to do it piece by piece.
Here's what you do.
From where you are now, under the dash, remove the dimmer switch and the ignition switch, the electrical part I've displayed in the picture.  Once that is off, remove the 4 bolts inside (5/16" heads) and the entire housing with the rods will slide off the shaft.  Now that it;s off, you'll see the small phillips hear screw holding the lower cap to the housing.  Remove that & you will have access to the bolt that holds the wiper switch in the housing.
Done, no cutting
Good luck
Doug
