Steering Column Repair: Buick Steering Column Lock, steering wheel, steering column

My son's 91 Buick flunked inspection because the steering column wouldn't lock.  What can be done, how difficult is it to repair?

Hello Kathy,
There are two parts involved with the lock. The lock pin and the lock plate. My guess, if the column is factory untouched, it could be a simple matter of cleaning and lubricating the lock pin as dirt and grease accumilate over time causing it to stick in the released position. These parts are located just behind the steering wheel.
