Subaru Repair: parking lights wont go off, subaru legacy, safety glasses

Question
i have a 1998 subaru legacy. the parking lights wont go off and ive tried everything...it seems. i switched on AND off that switch on top of the steering column and nothing helps, they still continuously blink. will this kill my battery? how can i shut them off?

Answer
The lights are blinking because some how the keyless entry/alarm has been tripped ,even if you didn't know you had it. And yes it will drain the battery. If you don't have the remote/key fob you can try to find the valet switch. It SHOULD be located under the dash, on the drivers side ,but there not always there as it mostly was a dealer installed option that year and if the tech installing it was lazy it wont be there.

So here is another option.

1.Turn the key off
2.Disconnect the battery negative terminal using the proper precautions(safety glasses ,gloves etc)
3.Turn the key to the on/run position
4.Reconnect the battery
5.turn the key off and all should be well unless the module for the keyless is buggy

You can also try and locate the keyless module under the dash (drivers side),try and find the harness and remove the two inline fuses.

I hope this helps and if you cant figure it out. you can call the shop on monday and i will try and guide you over the phone
