Subaru Repair: 1998 subaru legacy sw 2.2 L-Check engine light, vehicle speed sensors, vehicle speed sensor

Question
Help. Check engine light has been on again/off again for about a month, but now is always on. Replaced fuel filter, alternator and battery (battery died 5 days ago). CEL went out after the alternator/battery change, but only for about 50 miles. Now, 3 days later, new battery is dead. Autozone replaced the battery, but that is not the problem. New alternator checked OK. OBD codes were checked and read P0500, P1507 & P1530. They say something is bad in electrical system, which is draining the battery. Also, fuel gauge became inaccurate when this whole thing started one month ago. I pulled both sending units in the tank, all appeared OK. I noted one of these codes read for the speed sensor, but speedometer reads fine. Car runs fine, except after warm up, wants to stall at stops & not idle. I can usually tap gas pedal & stabilize. HELP-very frustrated.

Answer
WOW,

1.Ok,Lets start with p1507 first If you have a manual transmission most likely the neutral safety switch is acting up and the ECM (Engine Control Module)doesn't know if you are in gear or in neutral
2.P0500 vsp vehicle speed sensor .As the car is all wheel drive it has more than one vehicle speed sensors VSS 1 sends a drive sinal to the speedo gauge and the ecm ,Vss 2 sends a signal to the ECM and its how the ECM knows if the AWD is working properly or not.

My guess is that if the alternator is tested by someone who knows how to test the alternator on a Subaru it will fail the test.

Test as follows start vehicle turn on all electrical accessories ,shut hood and let it run for an hour then test the Alternator and see what happens
Subaru had an Alternator recall and you can pick up the updated alternator from Subaru much cheaper than from the local parts house and it will have all of the updated parts in it
