Subaru Repair: combination switch, left turn signal, turn signals

Question
QUESTION: Our 01 outback has a very rapid ( faster than turn signal interval ) clicking noise under the dash. It is the flasher unit. When we lift up on turn lever very little, it stops. I unplugged the connector for the combination switch in steering column. and it stops. any ideas ? thankyou
ANSWER: When does it happen? when you use the turn signal?Or just driving down the road?If its when you use the turn signal look for a bad bulb or socket.

QUESTION: It occurs whenever the car is on.  The turn signals and hazards work fine and the rapid clicking stops when they are on.  The left turn signal did come on without the lever being touched for a few seconds last night.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
In 2000 when i was at the dealer we had a 2000 Outback that had that symptom except it was intermittent, yours should be easier to find. But a qualified tech is probably going to have to take a look. You can inspect the bulbs and sockets your self, but i would stop at that point.
