Towing Issues: Abandoned Vehicle, lien holders, tow company

If a vehicle is towed from a property that has been abandoned do you have to hold the vehicle for a certain amount of time before disposing of it?

In Virginia the min. is 30 days after date of tow. In other states I have heard of it being longer. There are other procedures the tow company has to do in VA to dispose of the vehicle. Each state and town has different laws or CODES. Examples are DMV search for last owners and lien holders, notify through certified letters, auction process if the vehicle, etc. In VA it is not as simple as waiting 30 days and taking to the junkyard.
