Towing Issues: Towing a small trailer, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

We have purchased a Fun Finder X-139.  Its empty weight is just over 2100 lbs.  Once packed for camping, we probably max out at around 2400 lbs.
We currently tow it with a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with an in-line six.  The Jeep is getting tired and we are starting to shop around.
Am I correct in assuming that we will need a small 6 cylinder tow vehicle?

I wouldn't think you absolutely need a 6 cylinder to tow a trailer, but there would be quite a noticeable difference in performance while towing.

I would suggest researching a vehicles towing capacity, and if possible, test it out before buying it. A vehicles owners manual, or even the hitch itself should have the information you will need.
