Towing Issues: towing, cigar boat, gmc suburban

Question
what is the maximum length that i can pull with a 99 gmc suburban 1500 dealer says i can tow 13000max

Answer
The dealer would know this best. The length is not as important as the weight. (EX: A cigar boat may be really long yet may not weight as much as what you can pack in a 8 ft U-haul) Be careful not to over load the trailer and to load it evenly. Try to avoid tongue weight (to much weight in the front of the trailer.) Check all your tires and grease everything you need to. Stop often & check the 'heat' of the tires of what your towing. If they seem to get hot, stop more often. Not getting political, yet check your tire pressure while the tires are cold. Wish you a happy safe tow!

David,
I am sorry you felt my answer was not as helpful to you as it should have been. The point I was trying to make is: Your hand book should give you what the manufacture states should be the maximum length. Where as the weight is regulated and can be checked at a weight station. Safety is the most important issue. Depending on how comfortable you are towing a load. I've seen a F-450 used to tow a 4 car hauler or a Chevy Z-71 tow a 40 ft boat. You have to stay legal with your trailer lights (blinkers, brakes, flashers) DOT stickers are normally required on each end and in the middle, a close trailer on the highest point facing the rear. With out knowing what you are trying to tow, I gave you the answer I felt best for your safety. Again I am sorry and should have requested more information or sent it back to the towing question pool. From your rating, I take it you did not find the information I gave you very knowledgeable or helpful.
Again, I am sorry, please submit your question to another board member for towing. Hopefully they will be able to give you a better answer than I did. You may also check the back of your states driving handbook.
