Towing Issues: CAR TOWED, storage fee, lien holder

Question
ABOUT A MONTH AGO IN THE LAND OF LOUISVILLE, KY, I FOUND OUT MY CAR WAS TOWED FROM ABOUT A BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE.
IT TOOK ME SEVERAL WEEKS TO GET THE MONEY TO GET IT OUT.  I THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE POLICE HAD TOWED IT FOR ABANDONED AND SENT THE LIEN HOLDER A LETTER.  I WAS PAYING THE LIEN HOLDER AND AM NOT BEHIND PAYMENTS.  NOW THE DETECTIVE WHO HAD IT TOWED HAS NOT ANSWERED MY QUESTION (WHY!), AND CAN THEY TOW IT AGAIN.

Answer
Ah, lets see about this...

Your vehicle was towed, and the lien holder was notified.  Is it registered in your name at all?

Now the letter goes to the last registered - lien / legal owner stating that it was towed and that there was a towing and storage fee. In addition it also states it would be sold at auction on a certain date..

Now as to the "abandoned" part of the issue.  Generally when a vehicle sits for 72 hours (that's the normal time frame) then it is classed as an abandoned vehicle and subject to towing. They might put a ticket on it, they might issue a ticket and put a sticker on it, or they might just have it towed after a period of time. Hard to say on that one as each City has different policies on abandoned vehicles.  So I can not really provide a "specific answer" on that part..
As to the detective not returning your call, be patient as they are generally very busy...

As to if they can tow it again, sure if it sits to long. Especially if its parked on the street. It is listed now as a potential abandoned vehicle and that is not good... Can you park it at your house in the driveway or garage?  That would be the best thing to do...

Hope this helps a bit.
