Towing Issues: towing damage 97 Cherokee AWD, cv joints, failure point

Question
I was recently towed in downtown San diego.  My question is concerning
damgage that was incurred to my vehicle's drive train.  I am told my vehicle
was towed using propper procedure for the vehicle but when I picked my jeep
up from the tow yard my front drive shaft cv joint was blown up.  I took the
vehicle to a shop where they told me they had no way way of knowing if the
drivetrain failure was due to towing. I was wondering if towing an AWD jeep
could result in this damage that has happened.

Thanks

Answer
Well I tend to agree, as CV joints are a high failure item and if the vehicle had been towed 15 or more years ago, I would tend to say that it might of been damaged...

But now most tow trucks are either flatbed or wheel lift...

The flatbed truck, loads the vehicle onto it and all the wheels are off the ground...

Wheel lift tow trucks pick and lift via the wheels...

Now there is a very slight chance that a chain might of torn the boot, but if the joint is damaged or broke apart (not the rubber part) then it would be real hard to do with the tow truck...

But I can not say that they did not cause it, and by the same statement they might of done it... But the towing of the vehicle, I just have a hard time believing it caused damage.
It might of "helped it along" but it would of had to be at the failure point.
