Towing Issues: towing, tow dolly, drive wheels

Question
we are going to need to tow our 1983 Oldsmobile (cant remember the model but it is the bigger more expensive model-Brogham, maybe) behind a tow dolly for about 120 miles to bring it back home. The tow dolly is the kind that carries the front wheels and the rear wheels stay on the pavement.  Since this is an automatic transmission and a rear wheel drive i know some cars you can tow this way and some you can't so the question is, can you with this car? Not thinking that removing the u-joint and driveshaft is a possibility this time because of the disabilities of the driver. what do you think?

Answer
Well since you have a few "conditions" which make it hard to remove the driveline, I would suggest that you try to load the vehicle backwards on the tow dolly so that the rear wheels are off the ground.. That will protect the transmission from damage that way, and then all you have to do (in an ideal world) is secure the steering so that it stays straight and you should be good to go...

But if you tow it on the drive wheels with the front end on the dolly you risk doing major damage to the transmission..
