Towing Issues: Car towed, westminster colorado, westminster co

Question
Hi, a few weeks ago, my car overheated and died. I managed to coast it into a neighborhood and parked it legally on the street. My wife and I have had some financial struggles lately and have been unable to arrange a towing to a mechanic yet. But, since we've been having to share a car. We've checked on my car everyday to make sure it is ok. Well, this morning it was gone, I'm guessing it was towed. 1st of all, how do I figure out where it was towed to? second, I'm sure there going to charge me way more money than I have. Can they tow me from a legally parked place and give me full responsibility for getting my car out of some impound? Is there anything you would suggest I could try to do? Thanks, oh and by the way I live in Westminster Colorado

Answer
Ok as I understand the question, you broke down and parked it on a City Street.  Now under "MOST ALL CITY CODES" vehicles not moved in a certain time frame get classified as "ABANDONED VEHICLES"

From the sounds of the question you left it parked there for a period of time (guessing a few weeks from your statements) and now you noticed it was gone..

First of all you should check with the police department and see if they towed it for a parking violation or as an abandoned vehicle. They should be able to tell you more about where it is and why it was towed.. Now if they did not tow it then it might of been stolen.. Then it would need to be reported as stolen..

Now the laws do specify that the vehicle owner is responsible for towing and storage fees incurred by the removal of the vehicle.

Below is a link to specific Westminster information regarding towing.. It covers quite a bit of information and you might have to read though it a bit to find specific information for your issue..

Hope this helps.
