Towing Issues: Towed during lunch, small claims court, towing company

Question
My friend and I, parked at a parking lot that is adjacent to the building that has the restaurant we like to go for lunch. The parking spot had no marking, but the lot had standard sign that states unauthorized vehicles will be towed. However, we concluded that since the restaurant was in same building, we were authorized to park there. We came out approximately 30 min after parking, and car was gone. Towing company refused to disclose the party that made a call for towing. What can I do?

Answer
Well in California and a few other states you are supplied the information as to who called and signed the authorization to impound the vehicle...

But since I do not have the City or State information in this question I can not answer it properly (and it will not really matter after this answer and require a follow up question, as the information here will be generalized.. Any Internet search for "towing rules or regulations with your State or City listed will provide the same information I will provide, had I had the information)

That being said, I would check with the restaurant management and see if they know who owns the parking lot and how to contact them... That might possibly lead you to the person who authorized the removal of your vehicle.

As to the sign, that in most states is all that is required for warnings to people who are going to park.
Again a lot of this answer here depends on your City and or State laws, which I do not know how to answer without the information. Each State and most every City has laws which are different..

If you can not find out the information as to who called, you can always try the small claims court route to get your money back but you might also loose.

Hope this answer helps but again, I can only answer what I have solid information to work with.
