Towing Issues: dinghy towing, dinghy towing, other vehicles

Question
I am looking for a dinghy vehicle to tow 4 wheels down and I need to know which transmission to choose. I would prefer a small SUV. One person told me the best situation would be to choose an automatic 4x4. Second best..choose a manual 4 x 4. I understand why this chose.  I am looking for an older vehicle in the auto trader, so I can't always have my chose due to budget....anyway, I have the option to buy a tracker that has 2 wheel drive, manual transmission...will that be okay to tow 4 wheels down?  Will any 2 wheel drive manual transmission be okay?

Thanks for you help

Terry,

The past issues of the Dinghy Tow Guide list towing limits (distance/speed) if any, curb weight, retail price (when new), and approx. MPG.  It should give you a very good idea as to what is available that can be towed safely without modification.

Note, there are plenty of other vehicles that can be towed with modification, but at additional cost.

Good luck,
