I have a 1996 toyota tacoma 2wd 4 cylinder ext cab lxd and its a stick shift ithas no compression will not make it up a hill after it gets warms the tick gets louder what can i do to fix this problem

Hello, the first thing is to find out what is actually wrong here, has the engine compression been ch3ecked, if so what were the readings?
Has anyone looked at it to see what the problem may be? anything been tried to fix it?
Does the check engine light stay on while driving or does it flash?
