Our 2007 Toyota Carolla's trunk lid won't stay latched. It seems maybe the metal "hoop" on the car body doesn't match with the lock "jaws" on the trunk don't line up? It seems as if too many people slammed the Lid down and caused it to stop latching. We bought the car used and totally love the car except for this one small problem. Is there a secret to lining them up? I've also moved the "jaws " on the lock in the lid and makes no difference.Should I loosen the bolts on the car that hold the lower part of this assembly and then try to line them up? or what?

There is not much movement of the lower part of the latch possible, you may have to replace the latch completely, if there are any signs of a rear end collision this may also cause alignment problems and in that case a body shop may need to get involved.
