Toyota Repair: motor antenna mast 94 camry, antenna mast, antenna base

The mast is stuck up. It actually can slip up and down 6" if I attempt to move it by hand.The motor sounds as if it's working.If the cable isn't broken in the motor how does the mast get installed?

Remove the top nut on the antenna base, turn the key on and the radio on and the antenna starts to come out, pull on it to make sure it comes all the way out, notice which way the teeth on the nylon cord face, let the motr run until it stops, insert the new mast into the opening with the teeth facing the same way as the old one, have someone turn the radio off, the motor will caych the mast and pull it in, if it doesn't go all the way in install the top nut and turn the radio on again until the antenna comes all the way out and then turn the radio off again, it should now pull it all the way down.
