Toyota Repair: 2004 Prius display malfunction, 2004 prius, marcia king

Hi Ted,
I read your response to a Chris that was inquiring about the display
malfunction in his/her
2004 Prius.  I had our Prius into Kauai Toyota today for a 5,000 mile service
and a
diagnostic done on the display which was giving the message of The Air
Conditioner is not
hooked up when I would push the climate button and No Audio when I
pushed the audio
button.  The gentleman at Kauai Toyota said I would need to replace the
display for a price
of $5,724.56.  The car only has 26,337 miles on it.  How do I go about going
thru the
exchange program?  You mention that it is $400.00 or so; that is  a much
better option.

The diagnosis is correct, toyota had issued a service bulletin for this, have you asked the toyota dealer about the exhange unit, it's available directly from Panasonic or one of their distributors not from toyota, ask the dealer to call the closest Panasonic distributor for more information or call the Toyota customer service number for your area.
