Toyota Repair: 1999 Toyota Camry 4 cyl rear light wiring, toyota camry, wire colors

Question
For some reason the bundle of 6 wires leading from the front of the car was cut as it passes near the left hinge of the trunk lid.

My outboard lights and all lighting functions work except the inboard lights including the rear lights.  What was the cause (the hinge?) and how best should I get them together again.

Answer
Chuck,
If you haven't used these connectors before I suggest you take the car to a repair shop and have a technician do the repairs, it won't cost much.
There are a couple of different ways of connecting those wires.
A simple way is using plastic wire connectors that you crimp or squeeze together. Match wire colors together, cut, strip back installation and crimp. Then wrap electrical tape tightly around
connector and wire to keep moisture out and help keep the connector
in place. The other way is strip back the installation, solder wire
and wrap in electrical tape.
