Toyota Repair: 2.4 ltr Toyota engine tune-up, spark plug wires, timing chain replacement

Question
I recently purchased a 1991 Toyota PU with 90k miles and want to make certain  I am getting the best MPGs.

The obvious lack of air filter has been addressed and the obligatory carb cleaner was added to the 1st tank of gas.

Other than spark plugs, what else goes into a tune for this engine?

Is there anything else I should consider as well (timing chain, auto trans check ...)?

Answer
When doing the tune up you should also consider replacing the distributor cap, rotor and the spark plug wires as well as the air filter, there is no maintenance interval for timing chain replacement and if there is no rattle noise from the chain area when the engine is cold the chain and related parts are probably still good. If the trans fluid is clean and up to the full mark no other action is needed, if the fluid looks dark then it should drained and refilled or preferably the transpan removed and cleaned and at the same time check for any material inside the oil pan, any metal shavings or clutch material pieces are an indication of a failing transmission.
