the check engine light is on and a code p0401 apears what does this mean?

This code is related to an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)malfunction, if it's a 4 cylinder engine I would recommend replacing the egr modulator valve and the egr vacuum switching valve, these are the most common causes. If it's a V-6 engine let me know.
