Toyota Repair: Toyota-clutch/transmission problem, toyota parts, transmission problem

Question
Hi there,
I've got a '95 toyota p/u and yesterday out of the blue, I was only able to get into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, if i put in 4th or 5th it would pop out....My starter has also, been acting up, but that's a serparate problem....I'm wondering what you think is wrong with my truck and how much it would cost to get fixed?
any response would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
kevin

Answer
A common problem with the transmission popping out of some gears is that the shift tower bushings are worn, the shifter needs to be removed to check the bushings, there is a large teflon bushing in the shift tower and a smaller one at the end of the shifter, the toyota parts department can help you identify and order them. Or you can have them check the bushings for you in the service department, the cost should be around $200 to replace the bushings.
