Toyota Repair: fuel starvation, fuel starvation, toyota diesel

Question
hi,i own a 95 hilux pickup 2.4d.i have a problem with fuel starvation ,the engine will idle for approx 1 min and then cut out ,and ive noticed just before it cuts out the plunger (primer) on the top of the filter pulls down tight to the top of the filter ,then after about another 1 min the primer slowly returns back. i tried renewing the fuel filter, and ive removed the fuel pipes into the tank and have also blew them through to the filter to check for blockages ,and also ive slackened the injectors while the engine was running in case air was causing a problem,,any ideas? many thanks jason.

Answer
We have the 2.4L 2rz-fe gas engine here in North America. If you're talking about the 2.4L diesel, you may need to find someone else. We've not had Toyota Diesel engines in decades.
For the 2rz-fe: run the engine for a minute (or as long as it will run). Stop it. Check that the fuel pressure at the fuel rail is still 25psi after 5 minutes. (1.723 bar, 1.75 kg/cm2)
Toyota fuel pumps are a real low failure rate item. But I think you're most likely looking at buying a new one.
