Toyota Repair: 2000 Toyota Celica Starting/Stalling Problems, toyota celica gt, toyota celica

Question
The check engine light has been illuminated since about the 6th month I owned it (which was like at 10K mileage). Mechanics could never figure out why the light was always on and nothing was wrong with the car according to the codes (back then at least).

Question -
I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT with 140K mileage. It is an automatic transmission. The problem I am having is that it stalls when initially started after sitting for a while. When I turn the ignition, the car starts, sometimes I can place the car in reverse before it stalls, but always when i put it in drive, the car sputters and stalls. I then have to restart the car and put it in drive again. Then the car will sputter and accelerate extremely slow until it finally catches and then drives completely normally until the next time I start the car after it has sat for a bit. I took it the local mechanic and they replaced an oxygen sensor and cleaned out the fuel injectors. The car still stalls though and they have no idea. Any ideas?

Answer -
Normally if an engine has problems like this there will be a check engine light that turns on, if this is the case let me know.

Answer
Toyota had issued a service bulletin which addresses a misfire condition with the 2ZZ-FE engine, bulletin TSB EG003-01, since I don't have the diagnostic trouble code it's the best I can do at this time, the bulletin involves replacing the computer and all the fuel injectors.
And by the way, whoever told you that there was nothing wrong when the check engine lights is on, is wrong, the reason the check engine light comes on is that there is a problem.
If there is any way possible that I can get the trouble codes in the computer I can be of more help, without this information I can only take my best guess.
